DIY knit boot cuffs

I'm back with another project you can do with knit sweaters! If you missed the first two, go here and here.

This might be a project you've seen floating around the internet. Unfortunately, I do not remember where I first saw this, or I would share the source with you. I always like to give credit where it is due!

In any case, here is how I created my own boot cuffs, using pieces from a knit sweater.

Here's what you'll need:

  • A knit sweater
  • Pins
  • Thread
  • Scissors
  • Measuring tape (oops...not pictured!)
  • Sewing machine

First, determine how long you want your boot cuffs to be (aka how far inside the boot they will go). I made mine a little longer to start, but I might make them shorter once I'm sure they cover enough of my jeans once I'm wearing them.

I used the sleeves of the sweater, and cut my 2 pieces to 9" each. Since the end of the sleeve is finished, I only needed to hem the edge that I cut, and I gave an inch allowance for that.

Depending on how stretchy the sleeve of your sweater is, you may or may not be able to use it for your boot cuff. If you find it's not stretchy enough to fit your calf, try cutting the bottom band of the sweater so you'll still have one finished edge for your cuff. You'll just have to measure your calf, and sew your cuff together...similar to the steps for the DIY sweater vases.

Once you have both cuffs cut, turn them inside out, roll down the cut edge, pin, and sew.

Turn the cuffs right side out....and you're done!

I also made a second, camel-colored pair. Lola thinks they match her beautiful fur, so she wanted to be in the picture:)

I love that these give you the look of a thick, knee-high sock, but none of the bulk that comes with it! These are so quick and easy to make, you could really go crazy with different colors and textures. You could even add some pretty buttons on the sides....or lace on the top! I'm already getting excited to make more!

I hope you've enjoyed all of the easy projects I've shared for knit sweaters! Will you, or have you tried any of them? Share a link to your knit sweater projects if you can! Or....tell me about them!

Hope you're all having a great start to your week!
